We can "throw away" less. It is surprising just how little effort is required to divert millions of tons away from our landfills.


According to the EPA document, "Municipal Solid Waste Generation ... Facts and Figures for 2010" we are all doing a much better job of diverting waste from the land fill. In 1980 only about 10% of all waste was diverted from landfills. In 2010, we diverted slightly more than 34% from the landfills. Good job, people!

Can we do more? Sure. Even though we will probably never see 100% diversion we can probably double the current rate without breaking a sweat.
