Conservation: Water

flowing water
Water, the most precious commodity in our everyday lives. Clean water is essential for drinking, cooking, washing, etc. Everyone can help conserve, let's see how.

water   The use of water requires energy to heat, pump, ship, and to "dispose".  As clean water becomes scarce it becomes more expensive for all of us. See data from USGS for U.S. water flow.
According to our research, the U.S. is doing a better job of conserving water. However, according to a 2006 report from the American Water Works Association Research Foundation, residential use is about 350 gallons a day per household (127,000 gallons per year).
Generally, the use is about 27% for the toilet, 22% for the clothes washer, 17% for the shower, 16% for the faucet, and about 14% for leaks, and other is 4-5%.
Judicious use can not only lessen shortage conditions but can save you money and we show you how much.

Special Note: Some areas base sewer rates on your water consumption. If you use one of our calculators and your sewer rate is based on water consumption, you need to include that cost into your savings calculation.
